Manuscript in a single hand, with numerous corrections, of a collection of about 21 poems in French, Latin, and English, many satirizing Louis XIV and John Stuart, 3rd Earl of Bute; and 10 Latin epitaphs with English translations, several of which are also satirical, with titles such as Epitaph upon one of the noble namily of the scropes; Epitaph upon a rector; and Epitaph upon a living subject. The manuscript also includes an 8-page satirical poem titled The confession of Sir Francis of Medenham and of the Lady Mary his wife ...To the tune of the Abbot of Canterbury; satirical verses titled A monastick elegy and An old family receipt for a troublesom disorder; and 7 French poems with the note "These French poems are taken from a manuscript of my friend John Wilks." The volume concludes with five pages of brief excerpts from Holinshed, Virgil, and Horace.
